What to See in Dubbo

Dubbo City is a City of many attractions. In fact, there is so much to see and do in Dubbo that you’ll leave with a list of “what to see next time”. There is something here for everyone!

Dubbo is best known for it’s world famous Taronga Western Plains Zoo, but the real surprise is that there are other very unique tourist attractions, open to the public and available all year round. Just two hours North West is the spectacular Warrumbungle National Park and the internationally recognised Siding Spring Observatory. Less than 60 minutes east is the famous wine growing township of Mudgee, and historical Gulgong.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Dubbo features the open-range Taronga Western Plains Zoo, which is home to various species of endangered animals, including the White, Black and Indian Rhinoceros. The zoo is home to numerous specimens from around the world in spacious open-range moat enclosures,.

Dubbo Observatory
Your gateway to the universe is located on Camp Road just behind the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Various programs run to suit different groups. There are discussions on distance in the universe and how a star like the Sun actually works.

Astro Mini Golf Plus
A unique 18 hole mini golf course set in landscaped gardens over 1500 square metres and is surrounded by the picturesque Red Earth Estate Vineyard (the 19th hole!).

Dundullimal Homestead
Dundullimal is a special experience which allows visitors to step back into rural life in the early colony.

Old Dubbo Goal
Old Dubbo Goal is one of the most popular tourist attractions in country New South Wales. The fully restored 1800’s Gaol is enhanced with of some the latest technology in entertainment. Animatronics and hologram exhibits bring to life the stories and atmosphere of this fascinating place and relic of pioneering Australia.

Shoyoen Gardens - Authentic Japanese Horticulture Garden
These authentic Japanese Gardens show many different elements that reflect the traditional Japanese garden from the “Karesansui” - The rock garden with its sand or fine gravel that is raked into special patterns representing waves to the “Tsukubai” - hand washing setting which is an arrangement for guests to wash their hands before entering the tea room to enjoy the ceremony.

Wineries
Just minutes from the city centre, Dubbo best-kept secrets are the numerous boutique wineries. Sample of the regions wines at Red Earth, Lazy River, Tombstone and Boora Estate. Or if you wanted to explore further afield, try the Mudgee area, just over an hours drive, with it’s world renowned wineries and localities.
